The Solvita Compost Maturity Test provides an essential tool for home composters, compost manufacturers and compost users by permitting rapid, reliable and cost-effective on-site monitoring of decomposition rate. The test measures respiration rate plus volatile ammonia content so that you can make inferences about the progress of the composting process and the maturity and safety of the end products. The test is based on a new technique of gel-colorimetric analysis that captures respiration gases from composts and accurately displays the results in a colour-gel system calibrated to a wide range of known compost conditions.
